Building foundations for new ways of working globally

Context
The aquisiton of W12 Studios by TCS presented an opportunity to communicate and scale our bold, provocative and visionary ways of working. W12's capabilities have been celebrated because of the immediate impact our 'Vision' have on buisnesses. In contrast, TCS design output often failed to inspire, despite havng the benefit of a global client base, and integrated development teams. To build the right profile and build trust with design leaders, we set out to optimise and craft the way TCS Interactive moved forward. Bold, precice and confident communications, supported by tools to execute across the world.

Project
In downtime between project work myself and a small team would build the tools we needed to improve process. Perception was a major issue for both ourselves as designers and clients. So a more contemporary visual language was developed quickly. This spun out to presentation templates, and a library of deliverable templates. This included a 'Presentation Library' supported by a bespoke Figma plug-in built in-house which allows design teams to design and present within the software, whilst having core features of Keynote and other tools.

Approach
We are in a unique position with TCS of having a proven track record of inspiring chage. It was not in our nature to let good work get lost in bad process, so we had a mantra of 'move fast and fix things'. The identity built on the existing marque, taking the gradient and swoop and abstracting it elegantly. The bold use of colour injected much needed energy into communications that could be generously called 'dated'. Teams were struggling when moving from project to project so shared ways of working needed to be established, particulartly in the relatively new, and always evolving world of Figma. When a sprint goes well, we look at the tools we used and template them. From team worshops and hero journey maps - we now have a suite of tools at our disposal which we know are effective. The most major change has been the shift to presenting within Figma. The first iteration of which was a Figma 'Presentation Library' which immeditely saved multiple hours a week working in local files. The more positive effect was enabling team members tocontribute and learn how to build compelling narratives collaboratively. This has now been built on with variables so with a single click a whole presentation can take on a client accent colours, from typography to illustrations. Initially daisy-chains of Figma plugins were used to export decks to PDF's with the correct pagination and titles, but it was unreliable. So we developed a single plugin that ordered, paginated, titled and exported presentations. It also automated a protoype with a page browser built in.
