Context
The homeware and fragrance space is crowded - with many new businesses and side-hustles competing for customers' attention and trust. The challenge was to create a premium and ownable visual language. One that set Panko apart from small time Etsy sellers, and craft market candle makers.
Role
I worked with the founder and maker of Panko candles to explore the exisitng market, and then define Panko's place in it. After exploring a few visual directions we found a balance between the traditional story of the candles and the need to create an ownable language. Illustration became the tool to tell the story of Ukranian landscapes, which were drawn by myself.
Approach
Panko (‘Little rascal’) was an affectionate name given to the founder by his grandfather, but the brand needed to feel contemporary and imbued with quality. Illustrations are a form of digital cross stitch and paired with a contemproary cyrilic type face.
